5% on online spends, 1% elsewhere; cap ₹1,000/month

The HDFC Millennia Credit Card is a workhorse for anyone who spends online. It pays actual cashback (credited to your statement), not reward points, so the maths is simple: spend, get a percentage back, cap at ₹1,000 per month.

Reward structure

| Category | Rate | Monthly cap | |----------|------|-------------| | Online spends (shopping, food, utilities, etc.) | 5% | ₹1,000 | | All other spends | 1% | — |

Online is defined broadly: e-commerce, food delivery, OTT, bill payments, fuel (via apps), etc. So Zomato, Swiggy, Blinkit, Amazon, Flipkart, and most app-based payments qualify for 5%. You need to hit ₹20,000 in 5% categories in a month to max out the ₹1,000 cashback.

Fees and eligibility

  • Joining fee: Often waived for first year; check current offer.
  • Annual fee: Typically ₹1,000 (waived if spend exceeds a threshold, e.g. ₹2 lakh in a year).
  • Eligibility: Salaried and self-employed; income criteria as per HDFC. One of the easier cards to get in the cashback segment.

Best use cases

  1. Food delivery and quick commerce — Use on Swiggy, Zomato, Blinkit, Instamart. Straight 5% back with no category rotation.
  2. Online shopping — Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, etc. Stack with platform coupons; cashback is on the final paid amount.
  3. Bills and recharges — Pay via Amazon Pay, CRED, or biller apps; most count as online and earn 5%.

Stacking tips

  • You cannot combine Millennia cashback with UPI on the same transaction — choose one payment method. Compare: 5% card vs your bank’s UPI cashback for that merchant.
  • For subscriptions (Netflix, Spotify, etc.), pay with Millennia to get 5%; ensure the merchant is coded as online.
  • Use for large one-off online purchases to get closer to the ₹1,000 cap without spreading thin.

Bottom line

If you want simple, predictable cashback on online spends and don’t want to track points or partners, Millennia is among the best options. Cap of ₹1,000/month means it suits moderate-to-high online spenders; beyond that, consider a second card or a points card for travel. Make every rupee count.
