CRED

UPI App

CRED coins, pay-with-CRED cashback, and when to use CRED vs your card or other UPI apps.

CRED is a UPI app focused on credit-card users: pay bills, pay at merchants, and earn CRED coins or instant cashback. The catch is that value depends on how you use the coins (e.g. redeeming for vouchers, brand deals). Here's when CRED wins and when to use something else.

How you earn on CRED

  • Pay credit card bills: You get CRED coins per bill pay. Coin value varies by redemption; often in the 0.5–1% range when converted to vouchers or statement credit (if available).
  • Pay with CRED at merchants: Some merchants offer "Pay with CRED" — you pay via CRED UPI or linked card and get extra cashback or coins. Offers rotate; check the app.
  • Store and other features: CRED has a store, travel, and other services where coins can be used. Redemption rates differ; read the offer.

You cannot double-dip card rewards and CRED in the same way everywhere. When you pay a credit card bill through CRED, you're not spending on that card — you're paying it off, so the "reward" is mainly CRED coins. When you pay at a merchant with CRED (linked card), you may get both card reward and CRED offer if the merchant and CRED allow it.

Stacking with credit cards

  • Bill pay: Use CRED to pay your card bills and earn coins. You're not earning card rewards on the bill payment itself (bill pay usually doesn't earn rewards). So CRED coins are the only upside.
  • Merchant payments: If you pay via CRED at a merchant and the payment goes through your linked card, the card issuer may count it as a purchase — so you could get card rewards + CRED offer. Not all merchants support this; test with a small transaction or check CRED's list.

When CRED wins vs other UPI apps

  • Use CRED for bill pay if: You value CRED coins and the redemption options (vouchers, etc.) work for you. Compare with paying bills via your bank's app (no coins but no third-party app).
  • Use CRED at merchants when: There's a "Pay with CRED" offer that beats your card's direct reward or another UPI app's offer for that merchant.
  • Use PhonePe / GPay / bank UPI when: They have a better cashback campaign for that transaction and you don't need CRED coins.

Bottom line

CRED is strongest for bill pay (coins) and merchant offers when CRED's deal beats alternatives. For everyday UPI where there's no CRED offer, a bank UPI cashback or a good card may give more. Make every rupee count.
